General Awareness and Emergency Preparedness

Compiled from the Safety & Environmental Health Affairs Journal in response to the events of September 11 2001, this video includes information about Emergency Action Plans, fire drills, and package bombs.

Behavior-based safety programs encourage employees to focus on safe work behaviors. Using a video game format, this video addresses these key training points: consequences of unsafe acts, changing work habits, coaching, and measuring safety performances.

This true life story is about Randy Fellhoelter and the conditions which led up to his narrow escape from death. Randy tells his story to an audience of co-workers and discusses how our attitudes about taking risks can affect our lives. Some of the scenes in this program are very graphic and may not be suitable for all audiences. Scenes of Randy's injuries were taken at the hospital and during his recovery.

This video presents the story of Charlie Morecraft, a refinery worker who was seriously injured in an explosion. It shows the real-life consequences of the abuse of safety procedures.

This video is designed to show the value of sound safety programs and their economic benefits. Includes explanation of insurance rates, lost time costs, and the benefits to productivity and profit of a highly committed safety attitude.

1997, 20 minutes.

This program will teach your employees the basic aspects of emergency action planning. They will learn evacuation procedures as well as the importance of simulations and the responsibilities of all personnel. Topics include evacuation, head counts, communication/command center, medical attention center, emergency provisions, and preparation and practice.

1999, 15 minutes.

This presentation documents the consequences of poor safety practices. Kevin Bailey suffered the amputation of his right leg at the hip and injuries to his left leg after being caught in a rotating shaft. During his rehabilitation process, Kevin discovers that other injured workers have stories similar to his; each person's injury involved some type of shortcut or carelessness. Video includes interviews with Kevin, his family, his employer and the EMTs and doctors who worked with him.

Also covers the proper procedure for recharging batteries, disposing of old batteries, and how to handle battery acid and other corrosive materials. The best ways to clean oil spills and to prevent falls are discussed, along with preventing and containing fires. Provides a step-by-step procedure for pulling a car into a shop, and discusses the importance of proper ventilation to prevent asphyxiation.

This DVD features live action “dummies” who interact with real workers. As the dummies make critical mistakes, serious accidents occur. Topics include safety responsibilities, working with machines, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, power tools, warning signs and chemical safety. Good housekeeping, emergency plans, ladder safety, fall prevention, lifting techniques, lifting equipment, emergency plans, ladder safety, fall prevention, lifting techniques, lifting equipment, personal protective equipment, infectious materials and medical testing programs are also covered.

2005, 20 minutes.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was established to develop and enforce job safety and health standards. This DVD will familiarize you and your employees with the mission and workings of OSHA.
